The aforementioned The Void is the band’s seventh album in 12 years and is the heaviest record out to date. The band’s previous album, 2011’s Mammoth, signalized the presence of metalesque moments and opened a possible new ground for what appears to be The Void. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that Beardfish abandoned everything they have been building during the years, all of the elements these Sweds are known for are still there, but with a slightly rawer approach. You don’t get this often an album that’s not scared to explore new grounds while keeping the layers built throughout years.

An unreserved mind-f k in the best possible sense, the band's seventh album sculpts its genre- and time-bending material with no care for conventional compositional rules nor even chronological synchronicity (as usual), which makes it that much more remarkable that songs should prove so immediately appealing throughout, arguably like never before.
This is an eclectic and long album, so one thing that albums like this can suffer from is inconsistency, but Beardfish keeps things pretty steady for the most part. The opening two tracks as well as "This Matter of Mine" are definitely the heaviest songs and the best. Both the opening songs are like a mix of a Kyuss/Alice in Chains-type sound blended with progressive rock.
