The album is a two-record set featuring one record of experimental rock songs with vocals and one consisting entirely of ambient instrumental tracks. Guest artists include Robert Fripp (who co-wrote three songs) and Bill Nelson (who co-wrote one song). It was recorded in part at The Manor Studios in Oxfordshire, England, with producer Steve Nye. The album peaked at n. 4.

Released just a year later, Sylvian’s masterpiece, Secrets of the Beehive, arrived quickly. Each track was written in one sitting, he has noted. Sakamoto’s string arrangements appear mostly just to vanish, and Sylvian sings from behind acoustic guitar or a piano. The Boy With a Gun and The Devil’s Own take on varied evils but resolve without a hint of redemption.
VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE - Let It Bee Let It Bee is a simple album about moons, barbarians, love, and babies, performed with the high-spirited glow that one's little sister would enjoy. My cover photo of VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE for OffBEAT magazine's 'Religious' themed issue of December 1988 -, actually out in newsagents from early November, so the session took place in October. When we started the stupendously under-funded Independent indie music mag in 1988 it was publishing industry perceived wisdom that monthly music magazines 'do not work' in the UK.
