MÚM DEBUTS VIDEO FOR TOOTHWHEELS. Icelandic experimental-pop collective múm have debuted a new 7-inch single, ‘Toothwheels,’ taken from their forthcoming album, Smilewound, out September 17 on Morr Music. The video for the single is a jigsaw collaboration between múm, Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson & Bruno Granato. Starting off with echoes of their millenium-era rhythms, flourishing strings and teeming arpeggios elevate the track and the lulling vocals disguise the songs fatalistic lyrics, evoking an eerie sense of immateriality.
Toothwheels" (the song) is probably the best múm track I've hear. orgeous orchestrally arranged melodies and vocals with a great funky (and at times, crunchy) beat. Fantastic! Now that I think about it, it kind of reminds me of a couple of tracks I've written, so maybe I'm being subconsciously self-referentially narcissistic. Forgiveness, pleas. nd in all fairness, they do it better than I do). "Cranes Like Ships" doesn't match the exceptional A-side, though it's not bad. It's an idm-y, Lullatone-y workout.
