I didn't care for it much when I first heard it, preferring DSotM and Animals, but now I absolutely love the album. Still love Animals and DSotM as much, if not more now, but Meddle has risen above the other albums faster than any other album I've grown to love. Then over time I began to like then love Southampton Dock and Final Cut as two absolute classics (the live versions are arguably better). People who hate this album aren't Pink Floyd fans. Too low. If you hate this album you never liked Floyd, you were just a Waters fanboy.

The first Pink Floyd album not to feature founder and bassist Roger Waters, A Momentary Lapse of Reason represented a definite transition to a new phase in the band’s long history. It came in the midst of a tumultuous period of lawsuits and name-calling between Waters and his former band mates, led by vocalist and guitarist David Gilmour. Waters officially left the band in December 1985 and tried to officially dissolve the Pink Floyd name with his departure, but Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason wanted to continue with new projects by the band. The album’s music originated from sessions for a new Gilmour solo album in 1985, which were recorded primarily on Gilmour’s converted houseboat, called Astoria, anchored on the River Thames. Gilmour changed his mind in 1986 and decided to use the material for a new Pink Floyd album when Mason joined the project.
David Gilmour's wife has revealed that Pink Floyd will release a new album this October. The Endless River is the group's first album since 1994's The Division Bell, and was reportedly inspired by the same recording sessions. In addition to announcing the album's title and release date, she referred to the record as "Rick Wright's swansong". But Gilmour gradually changed his mind, inviting McBroom-Hudson to record backup vocals last December and adding more singing since then. Gilmour has "done a lead on at least one," she said, and Samson, who co-wrote seven of The Division Bell's tracks, described herself on Twitter as one of The Endless River's lyricists. In addition to finishing Pink Floyd's 15th studio album, Gilmour is also allegedly still working on a new solo album.
