KOI CHILD are a seven piece hip-hop/jazz collective from Fremantle, Western Australia. hip-hop quartet Childs Play and improvisational jazz quartet Kashikoi. The improvisational jam caught the eye of Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker which saw the act being invited to open for them the following week. The band continued their relationship with Parker and released their debut self-titled album with him at the helm via Warner Music Group in March 2016 to critical acclaim debuting at on the ARIA Charts 2016 WAM Awards - Best Music Video 2016 WAM Awards - Best Urban Act 2015 WAM Awards - Most Popular New Act. Fremantle seven-piece Koi Child are breathing new life into the hip-hop genre.
The rapper here doesn't provide anything revolutionary in terms of lyrics or flow, but the musicianship, production and general vibe of this album. 2y. EMR. 72. Delightful debut by american jazz-hop band Koi Child, who do really well under Kevin Parker's guidance. There is a bit of Jagga Jazzist going on behind the numerous layers of sound and colour brought by Parker's textured production, that bring out the best in the group's music.
