So, my curiosity is already awake. On Tools, Ielasi takes the study into the physicality of everyday objects even further. Tools by GIUSEPPE IELASI, released 15 June 2010 1. Cooking Pan 2. Rubber Band 3. Polystyrene Box 4. Metal Rod 5. Aluminum Foil 6. Tin Can 7. Paper Lamp Tools is the latest creation from Italian experimentalist Giuseppe Ielasi. While Ielasi’s work over the years as a guitarist and drone artist has become highly regarded his work on 2009’s Aix (12k1051) completely broke that mold, turned heads, and quickly became one of his most critically acclaimed releases. The fractured, almost jazz-like rhythms pieced together from sampled fragments that graced Aix has been taken one step further in concept.
The album consists of five interrelated pieces made of dozens of loops. Acoustic and soft electric guitars, percussion, found-sounds and turntable surface noise cycle left and right, forming ever-changing figures. Part musique concrète, part Oren Ambarchi-esque guitar soundscapes, the music also features an extra element of understated melodicism in the first two pieces. The result is less immediate and seductive than Gesine
