As the album opens with the title track Another Fall From Grace you would be forgiven for thinking that a hole in the space-time continuum had ripped open & transported you back to 1985. This is classic sound Hussey & The Mission, their trademark 12 string electric guitar tone is back & in full flow. This album is full of tender caliginous material & it’s obviously a very personal album to Wayne as he has this to say himself, So much of this was done in isolation – from the world, from my family, from my friends, and even from my band mates.

Sound - 9 The Mission are a British Goth rock band formed in the mid-eighties by ex-Sisters Of Mercy guitarist and bassist Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams, and went on to become a key band in the Goth movement. Some may remember their early albums such as "Gods Own Medicine" (1986), "Children" (1988) and "Carved In Sand" (1990), but after the 80s Goth flame began to fade The Mission largely fell from grace - pun intended. Lyrics - 8 Lyrically the Mission are known for fairy queens, circles of stone and all things mystical, but on "Another Fall From Grace" the more cheesy tropes have been largely abandoned in favour of slightly more mature word-scapes. The gothic imagery is still present but is more evocative and atmospheric, and less cliche, than previous Mission albums. In terms of vocal performances Hussey really delivers on this album.

Originally released in 2016, Another Fall From Grace was The Mission’s best album since the early 90s. Simultaneously classic (an abundance of chiming guitars and black velvet crooning evoke goth’s heyday) and contemporary (Jade manages to incorporate electronic elements without disgracing itself), it took the band off the 80s nostalgia treadmill and placed them in the here and no. So we can’t say how the 180g LPs sound like on a decent stereo system, or whether the book is filled with fantastic memorabilia or pictures of Wayne Hussey’s shaved nutsack.
