Matthias Goerne - Arias is a compilation of arias sung by Matthias Goerne. On this recording by Decca Music Group from 2000 one gets to hear Goerne sing Mozart, Wagner, Schumann, Humperdinck, Strauss, Korngold and Berg. Manfred Honeck leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The booklet contains well-written music notes, all the lyrics and a photographs of Mr. Goerne. The selection of arias is a bit confounding. The mixing of the styles makes it sound as if they picked the arias by random rather then using a specific theme or era. Still a quite good recording.
Matthias Goerne, baritone; Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Manfred Honeck. Decca 289 467 263-2; CD. Lovers of the human voice know the German baritone Matthias Goerne primarily for his rich, perceptive lieder recordings. Last year, a CD of Bach cantatas broadened his profile. Now, with the release of an album devoted largely to opera arias, we have an even more complete picture of Mr. Goerne's talents.
