I have heard dozens of recordings of Le Sacre Du Printemps, The Firebird, and Petrushka, and I feel that these vintage recordings from the 1960s are some of the best. Here we have Stravinsky conducting his own music, something that is truly special. I happen to prefer these versions of Le Sacre Du Printemps and Petrushka. They are played at a faster tempo, and are more rhythmic and exciting. Still, Stravinsky was aging and although he still did a very good job of conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, it pales compared to the energy of Bernstein and the Philharmonic.
