Helen of Troy is the sixth solo studio album by Welsh musician John Cale, released in November 1975 by Island Records, his last of three albums for the label. During the sessions Cale cut two cover versions, "Willow Weep for Me" and "God Only Knows", which went unreleased. Another unused track, "Mary Lou", was released on the compilation album Guts. The album features a cover of "Pablo Picasso" originally by the Modern Lovers, a song which Cale had produced for the band's debut album.
The Island Years is a double CD compilation of John Cale's work during 1974 and 1975. The collection, released in 1996, is composed of the three previously released Cale albums issued by Island Records: Fear, Slow Dazzle, and Helen of Troy. The album also includes some extra tracks, b-sides, and individual tracks from other albums but the Slow Dazzle's last and experimental track "The Jeweller" was shortened to 4:11 (in the original album, the track's duration is 5:07)

The supporting crew on Cale's final Island album makes for a lineup that could never have happened again - at least, in terms of future results, imagining, among others, Cale, Chris Spedding, Brian Eno, and Phil Collins once more in the same room together seems totally unlikely. Regardless of the oddity, Cale once again led a great ensemble band (Spedding now having fully taken over from Manzanera on guitar) through another set of great, inspiring songs
Save Us. Cable Hogue. I Keep a Close Watch. Leaving It Up To You. Baby, What You Want Me To Do? Sudden Death. Coral Moon(replaced Leaving It Up To You on original vinyl release). Mary Lou(outtake from the Helen of Troy recording sessions). John Cale – keyboards, guitar, vocals. Chris Spedding – guitar. Pat Donaldson – bass. Eno – Eno. Phil Collins & Tim Donald – drums. Helen Of Troy is a music studio album recording by JOHN CALE (Prog Related/Progressive Rock) released in 1975 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. I do not know how unhappy John Cale may have been in the mid-1970s, but this fascinating album gives the impression that his mind was unbalanced. With his previous release, SLOW DAZZLE, Cale tried to achieve commercial success and failed. On HELEN OF TROY he seems to have thrown all caution to the wind. He simply went and released an album that was sad, angry, depressing and frightening in turn. It was not the kind of thing "pop idols" do.
