Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. About Floodland 1 contributor. Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 13 November 1987 by Merciful Release and Warner Music Group. The recording of the album began in January 1987, roughly two years after the band disbanded following the departures of band members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey. Much of the lyrics of the album refer to this split, with The Cold War being the.
Opening with the driving two-part hymn "Dominion/Mother Russia," Sisters leader Andrew Eldritch (along with bassist Patricia Morrison) creates a black soundscape that is majestic and vast. While the earlier Sisters releases were noisy, sometimes harsh affairs, Floodland is filled with lush production (thanks to Meat Loaf writer/producer Jim Steinman and the New York Choral Society) and lyric imagery that is both scary and glorious.
As with every decade, the ‘80s were an era of musical transformations. Genres such as hard rock and punk slowly declined and were replaced by others including post-punk and gothic rock. Gothic rock was dominated by The Cure, Bauhaus and Joy Division among others that influenced one of the most unique bands of the decade; The Sisters of Mercy. Led by their iconic vocalist Andrew Eldrich, the Sisters of Mercy released their debut in 1985 . Overall, Floodland may not be as dark, influential or focused as the band’s debut but is still an excellent album with an amazing vocal performance by Andrew Eldrich. Fans of The Cure, Bauhaus or even ‘90s gothic metal will definitely find various elements they enjoy so make sure you give this album a chance.
The sisters of mercy mmmm say no more. It wasn't the latest Prince album, that much was certain. I never worried about stupid labels, I just put the album on and if it sucked, I threw it out. Also, Floodland has decidedly "morbid" and apocalyptic bent/themes running all through it, and Andy's voice, as always, is very much on the doomy side of things, that cannot be denied. to This Corrosion is clearly a "gothic" touch, at least. Does this help at all?
