xx is the debut album by English indie pop band the xx. It was released on 14 August 2009 by Young Turks, an imprint label of XL Recordings. After signing a record contract with XL, the xx recorded the album from December 2008 to February 2009 at the label's in-house studio in London. Audio engineer Rodaidh McDonald worked with the band during the recording sessions and attempted to reproduce the intimate, unembellished quality of their demos

The xx played Coachella for the third time last night (April 14), performing ahead of headliners Radiohead. The band opened with ‘I See You’ track ‘Say Something Loving,’ before launching into performances of ‘Crystalised’ and ‘Islands’ taken from their 2009 self-titled debut. Band member Oliver Sim told the crowd, I’ll tell you what, I do not have the words to tell you how happy we are to be here. You can watch the full set below from around the 3:26:00 mark. After The xx wrapped their performance, the Coachella crowd were treated to a colourful drone display. According to The LA Times, hundreds of yellow, blue and red lights filled the sky, forming a variety of shapes. You can see a picture of the drones below.
That’s all we can really say for the footage that has come back of The xx performing their huge single ‘On Hold’ at this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The track, easily one of their most memorable from their latest album ‘I See You’, is an emotional but uplifting cut that translates into a live performance magnificently. The video starts with Jamie anchoring the stage as he freestyles with the instrumentals until a more familiar melody begins to roll through as Oli and Romy step out.

The xx broke into the indie music scene in 2009 with their mesmerizing, whispery self-titled album - and every hipster from Brentwood to Brooklyn embraced their emotional lyrics and addictive sound. It was only once the album had come out and we’d been written about in NME and blogs that younger people, people our age, started coming, he says. And we were so surprised. We never invited any of our friends to our shows, because it was much easier playing in front of strangers.
