This is possibly my favourite release from the whole Echospace Detroit label & definitely my favourite CV313 release! I cannot praise this fantastic CD high enough, its just so magical it has to be heard to be beleived. If you like deep, dubby, atmospheric electronic music then this should blow your mind! Its getting kind of on the expensive side these days which is a shame...i myself had to pay around £40.00 to own a copy of this majestic release, but boy its worth every penny and more. Get it if you can as you will love every single second of it. Luv it =) 10/10
The D.E.M.F. - After Party In 2008 is an incredible treat in itself. Never have I heard Modell's compositions so, for lack of a better phrase, messed with; double-beats, stop-edits and flange play are some of the touches added to these pieces. This is hardly just another mix of material you may have already heard. With such 'play' involved these cuts truly have a more unique, 'live' element. Must have been a great party :P Perhaps best of all is the last 20 mintues that changes into a complete chill dub session... wish I had a track list. Sad to note there are a couple glitches (post-edits?), at least on my copy (at 19:18 and 29:38) - I would love if anyone else could confirm if they hear the same issue. Incredible show, I think the D.E.M.F. disc outshines the regular cv313 live disc actually. EDIT: In reference to the 'glitches' I mentioned, here are Stephen Hitchell's comments: "the glitches you mention aren't really glitches just the DBX compressor/limiter they had hooked up out of the main console "crunching" the mix for lack of a better term. If a certain portion of a song simply came in 2DB higher than what was playing in the mix or a sound was to dominate it simply cuts it down and in this case over -50DB which makes it virtually impossible to hear, it may sound like a glitch but only a technical issue with those types of units. If they had used a better compressor / limiter this wouldn't have been the case, old DBX's are great on 4/4 kick drums but try putting them on a beat with a bassline and you end up with a muddy mess. I like compression where the sound gets churned and weaved like butter, a good example would be the Manley, great compression / limiting and keeps the audio intact, balanced and even."
The last track on the D.E.M.F. disc is a live version of "Standingstill [Reduced]", which is also available on the "Standing Still" 12".
I second that the DEMF after party 2008 is wonderful. I heard that initially they wanted to release that CD as the main LIVE CD. The last 20 mins are indeed one of the highlights. Do you know what unreleased track or tracks it is? I heard that the tracklisting on dicogs is wrong.
